In the winter I figure I won’t be using it since there’s no predator activity.

It's exceedingly unlikely that there's no predator activity in the winter no matter where you live.

Winter, when ordinary wild prey is less abundant, is usually when predator pressure on domestic animals is the highest.

Most of the predators around me hibernate in the winter. I have 10 cameras on my property and have only seen an owl all winter. So I’d say there is little to no predator activity in the winter. Either that or they are just really good at dodging cameras.
