best food for dog with sensitive stomach?

I do a combenation of 4- health dog food, and Diamond naturals. No corn, soy or wheat, I know Taste of the wild is good, but it is PRICEY!
I am sure you love your dog. My dog got sick and died after eating 4Health last March 2012. If you live east of the Mississippi like I do, 90 percent of all Diamond products like 4Health and Diamond are made at the Gaston, South Carolina plant. This plant is s serious repeat offender for salmonella related recalls. Last time I checked, 20 brands of dog food were made there. After the March April 2012 recalls for salmonella, ( which involved various production runs of many brands of feed made the from Nov. 2011 thru April 2012), several of the brands pulled out and switched to other mills. The Meta Missouri Diamond plant was closed for a while as a precaution, then re-opened. The Gaston, South Carolina plant was cleaned and re-opened. The info about which brands are made at Gaston is on the Internet. If the production code has an X in it, it is made in Gaston. If it has an M in it, it is made in Meta. I do not know if they changed the lettering system after the 2012 debaacle.
Best,
Karen

Thanks, I will see if there is anything like that around here. If not, I'll be fine with paying for her vet check-up. She is past due anyways.

I know, I appreciate your opinion and everyone else's. That's why I created this thread to hear everyone's advice and make an educated decision on finding her a better food. Even if there is nothing wrong with her (which would be wonderful) I still need to find her a food that works better for her. I should be able to get her to the vet Thursday or Friday. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Thought I'd share some photos of her:

This was taken a few years ago, this is how she was sleeping

sitting on the couch

a few months ago, sunbathing

most recent just a few days ago getting a bath

Yes, I love my dogs, we switched from brand to brand for a while trying to find ones that agreed with our dogs. After switching to this food, My dog's coat got better, and and their energy went up. I'm sorry for your dog though =( I will check the sales code Thank you for the warning.

OP, at her age and with the problems she's having a good vet check is in order and well worth it. I have a dog that started thowing up daily and it was always yellow, frothy yuck and he was loosing weight as well, of course, with all that barfing. The vet did some x-rays and ultrasounded him and did blood work as well. Everything looked fine inside, turns out he just has too much stomach acid. Now he takes generic Pepcid twice a day before each meal. Problem solved. But I never would have known what the cause was, if it was a more serious problem, or how best to treat without seeing the vet.

The one bit of vet advice I did NOT listen to was to feed him the popular brand of dog food they sell in the office. Junk! If you visit the website www.dogfoodanalysis.com you can read up on what all the different ingredients actually consist of and what you need to look for in a good brand of dog food. Just because something carries a popular name and a big price tag doesn't mean it's good food. Lot's to learn about what the listed ingredients actually are.

Good luck with your little dog, hope you get to the bottom of it and get her feeling better.

That is good to hear. Maybe that is all that is wrong with her.

Good to know. I'm starting to think pretty much all dog foods are junk. I have to say, yesterday and today she has only eaten real meat. Salmon and tuna yesterday, tuna and cooked ground beef today and she is acting so much better and no vomiting :)

I'm still going to take her in to be seen, but I am starting to feel more optimistic.

You can always look into forgoing commercial food and switching to a BARF (bones and raw food diet) but I would make sure to do a bit of nutritional research on what raw meats to provide and the proper balance. Some dog food brands are much much better than others but there is a big price difference.

Depending on what the problem ends up being you can also look into natural food remedies that may be cheaper than medication. I give my problem dog carrots and pumpkin and that has also helped. She is doing very well now. She LOVES carrots.

I've heard about pumpkin being good for a dog's stomach. I have a recipe for pumpkin dog biscuits but I haven't tried to make them yet.

I don't think I'd want her eating raw meat because I'd be concerned about the germs. Even if it didn't make her sick if she licked my son's face or something (which she sometimes does) I'd be afraid it would make him sick.

Aren't certain bones a bit risky? I've heard of them splintering and causing intestinal problems.

Those are cooked poultry bones. Raw beef bones with the marrow are very very healthy for dogs. If you are at all considering it I would read a lot as you really need the right mix of muscle, bone, and organ. Cooking the meat will take away some of the nutrition and be sort of besides the point of going that route. Fresh whole beef from a good source properly stored should not have a problem with bacteria. Ground beef (or any ground meat product) is really the big issue when it comes to bacteria because of how it is handled and processed and how much surface area there is for bacteria exposure. (This is why you can eat a steak nice and bloody but should never eat a hamburger that way)

She looks like a great little girl. I cannot express to you how much I sympathize with your concern. Never having children... our dogs are family to my wife and I. I hope you are able to figure out her stomach issues so she can be happy and healthy for many more years.
