I've lost several laying hens this way. They were all from the same batch of chicks. The last one was over a year old when she suddenly died. Saw her at lunch time and she was doing everything the rest of the chickens were doing. Came home from work and she was dead. I thought it was some defect in that batch of hens since I've gotten three other batches and this never happened to any of them.
