Best hatchery to order Ameraucanas?

NPIP website. Left side of page, select “stock codes” -under prefix “R” you will look for Ameraucana, it will have several codes. Note those codes for what you are interested in.

Now, search by state. It will bring up a word doc that looks confusing. Really, just use the “find” function on your computer and enter a code you noted earlier. It will find all instances if that code. Repeat for as many codes…then go to neighboring states and repeat search. It provides you with names and addresses of NPIP farms, breeders that have that type of bird.

Disclaimer: I’ve not been on NPIP site for a year or more so perhaps website updated. But, I’m sure you can figure

Do you mean it must say the color before the name (i.e. "Black Ameraucana", "Splash Ameraucana") or that only certain colors are true Ameraucana, or both? 👀
When a brown red Ameraucana breeds with a splash Ameraucana their offspring are considered Easter Eggers. Ameraucana are the only breed of chicken held to such extreme and pretentious standards of purity

Now how do we get McMurray to acknowledge that?? They are blatantly selling "mixed flock"...I and others have sent them many links including to the SOP for Ameraucanas & they simply do not care.

There is a 2nd group - Ameraucana Alliance.

Umm. At least the mixed varieties have a fun name and not "mutt".

Other breeds don't accept mixed varieties either, actually. They would still not be considered purebred... However, introducing new varieties (colors) is often called a "project bird" & your right, they don't go by a "special name" like the Easter Egger (EE). But the EE also encompasses other breeds now as well.

And as a breeder, if I got a mixed variety when expecting a "pure" one, I'd be pretty upset. Black, coming from a Lavender or Self Blue line, can bring in the Lavender "feather shredding gene" and it's amazing how many folks don't seem to realize that or care, but still call themselves breeders (this is across several breeds, not just Ameraucana). I have learned to go through breeders who breed to SOP, even though I may never show. Why? Because I don't necessarily want to breed "mutts" or hybrids, I'm aiming for the best birds I can get.

Even with BBS lines, black from non-BBS lines are still brought in for improvement in color as well as other genetic improvement.

I DO like EEs, OEs & other hybrid breeds & have produced some interesting BYM (back yard mixes), LOL.

Our all time favorite hen (so far) was a cinnamon roo x buff orpington hen...she was amazing. We're hatching out buff orpingtons, buff orpington x cuckoo marans & buff orpington x cinnamon queen in a few weeks since we just sold our buff roo.

Is this the 1st time? If not, why did you chose this breed cross?

Is/are your cuckoo maran the same size as the BO? I know that our 2 hatchery cuckoo maran hens were pretty big girls, but not as large as our FBCM (both blacks & blues) from breeder stock. I'm curious what colors your crosses will hatch out. Would you be able to tell pure BOs from the crosses?

I've gotten Rhode Island Reds from both BYC members and the feed store that have white legs. A fault. If these were Ameraucana a leg color fault would reduce them to Easter Egger category, however given that they're RIR we just all called them RIR. Just not a completely pure show variety

If RIR had the same naming template as Ameraucana, then a single fault would get them dubbed as Red Yankees

I prefer mutts myself and Easter Egger is a fun name at least as you said
