Hey Yall'! What's everyone opinion on the best heavy brown egg layer breed that is great in production, and great around kids?

Golden comets are proficient layers of big brown eggs often laying double yolk eggs and are very docile and friendly. Ours eat out of our hands.

One of my neighbor's Golden Comets has laid an egg in my barn every day for the last two months. She eats out of my hand, as do the other Golden comets. They help me garden - wait for me to bring up worms and bugs, and they talk to me the whole time.

Any of the sex-links: Black Star, Golden Comets, Red sex-link, ISA browns. I like good old fashioned Rhode Island Reds, Orpingtons and Plymouth Rocks, myself.

thanks for all the replies! I'll have to add some comets! I have buff orps, rh reds, silver laced wyn. and barred rocks..

My Partridge and Barred Rocks lay every day. Brahmas are very heavy, lay large eggs but won't lay in summer in most cases, but they are very cool.

I got 5 red sexlinks last week and they laid the day after I got them and have produced an egg a day since...I would definitely recommend. THey are VERY tame too...the totally let you carry them around.

Don't forget black Australorps. Huge eggs almost daily, even all winter, docile and friendly, jump on my lap to be petted. One laid 364 eggs in 365 days.
