Best heritage meat rabbits for Mississippi weather

I'll admit, never thought of Mini Lops for food. I get technically any livestock is edible (will need alot of seramas though for a meal) but some just... never cross my mind.
They weren't bred for meat, just used for it because you couldn't give away great show rabbits here near the time we got out of it. Too many people would have rather bought mutts from the petstore than rabbits they could actually show if they wanted to. Same with the harlequins. Frustrating that so many near perfectly marked rabbits were processed because people didn't want them

Aaah yeah that's for sure. 4H here starting up rabbits and it going pretty well. When I was in 4H it wasn't a option, but since they didn't push for traditional poultry shows Rabbits are filling that need.

We raise Blanc de Hotots in NW Mississippi. No fans, no ice, but I do make water available in BOWLS rather than bottles. Unfortunately we've had to cut the trees back more every year due to the wind and ice and so we no longer have deep shade, just a carport canopy. I lost a few early on in my journey with the breed but don't see any signs of distress ("panting" or at nose/mouth,) anymore. Raise them without babying them and breed what survives and you'll have a hearty line adapted to your situation pretty quick. This goes for pretty much everything.

I first started with rabbits in 4-H in Shelby County, TN. Still going 20 years later 🤣

You know Chris Christiansen?

Not that I know of, I was active in 4H from like 2011 to 2018-19 (gotta dig around for exact dates). Rabbits were JUST starting when I aged out. I can PM ya more details to see if maybe we did cross paths without realizing it.
