Best layers?

When I first started trying to decide on which breed I would try, I found the Speckled Sussex. They are considered a rare chicken and lay Med. to Large eggs 3 to 5 a week. From the photos, they look really pretty. I ended up finding a "Chicken Lady" outside of town who raised a variety of chickens for resale. I bought 4 from her that were already laying; a Cochin (that lays almost every day a nice 2 + ounce light brown egg), a Minorca ( that lays almost every day a nice 2 + ounce white egg), an Amerecauna that lays a 2+ ounce light green egg 3 to 5 a week, and a New Hampshire Red that I have yet to catch laying an egg, but think she lays a medium light brown egg 2 or 3 a week. I bought some babies but only 3 have made it to laying age. 2 are Ameracunas that are laying like the older one, and one is a Barred Rock that lays like the Cochin. I love the variety of breeds and colors of birds & eggs. Last week I decided to add a few more mature birds to help with the egg production, and found some red sex-links. Once they get acclimated to the new home, I think I'll have more eggs than I will know what to do with. Still don't have my Speckled Sussex, but am waiting to find someone that is going to make a big order and try to get just a few that way. Or, I may just order a few & go to Ideal and pick them up. They are only 3 hours away from here.

I ordered Speckled Sussex and EE's from Ideal last fall. They really are beautiful birds. The EE's are outlaying the Sussex. There are 34 pullets and we got 14 eggs today. I think they are 25 week.

I know most people don't like RIR and they are the opposite of exotic but mine lay consistantly 6 eggs a week. My EE are the same way. The eggs are med/lg
