Best layers

Well, if your simply looking for egg production you can't beat a white leghorn. Some people say they don't like them because they say they are too scitish but lets face it.... any chicken can be scitish. I have 16 different breeds in my coop and the white leghorn is hands down the best layer. My flock started laying the end of september and my white leghorn has given me an egg every day except for 3 since then. That includes two double yolkers too. After her i'd have to say my speckeled sussex is the next best. My RIR just started laying so I'm not sure how she will be, but white leghorn and RIR and the two breeds used most by commercial egg producers.

i have a mutt that is crossed between a RIR and buff orp and she lays my best eggs 1 every day so far now my white legging lays the largest egg and has been pretty steady my BR's are 5 eggs a week my black astrolop has just started laying

We raise a different breed every year.
So far the Black Australorps are the best overall.
They began laying a bit later than the other breeds,
but make up for it by being nice steady layers of good
size eggs.
Also, they're the calmest breed we've had.

My best layers are Plymouth Rocks, true Ameraucanas, EEs and Delawares. Gosh, at the moment, I have very few of any other breed. Mostly we concentrate on Rocks, both blue and barred, and the Ameraucanas, however, the Ameraucanas and EEs took longer breaks during molt than the Rocks did.

Just my input on EE's, to me it seems like they have the most laying problems and wait the latest to lay. But there are some great laying EE's also. Same with Ameraucanas. IMO. But they do lay BEAUTIFUL eggs. From my flock, my BSL and White Rock are the best. My EE went almost a month without laying, laid again today and it was formed oddly. Here are some great, reliable laying breeds...

Leghorn
Rhode Island Red
Black Sexlink
Red Sexlink
Light Sussex
Plymouth Rock
Cuckoo Maran
Barred Rock

Don't know much about the chickens you want but the ones i have are red and black sexlinks and white leghorns. I have 17 of them and i get anywhere from 10-13 eggs a day now from them and this is theyre first winter and my first time raising chickens, so i think everything is going well...so far

the leghorns however arent really the quite and docile type of chicken but my sexlinks like me very much!

Rhode Island Reds are amazing layers. I have two Rhode Island reds and three Silverlaced Wyandottes. One of my RIRs has not laid yet (9 months old) but the other lays a large egg every day. My SLWs are pretty consistent as well so far. Out of the three of them I get 2 eggs a day from them sometimes 3. Seems that one will take a break every few days. Also I've heard sex links are awesome layers too.

I should add that leghorns are great layers too but extremely flighty. Also if you're in a cold climate like me, SLWs are great because of their small combs and all the fluff they have to keep themselves warm.

my white leghorns and rhode island reds are my best layers. i plan on getting more this spring to replace my 2 year old red sex links that are fading out.

My RIR's are great layers, but the little OEGB is beating them right now.

My Buff Orpingtons are really good layers, In my eating egg pen I have 3 Buff Orpingtons and they lay 2 eggs a day between them. Every few days I will get three.
