Best Meat Bird Order?

Quote:
The White Leghorn is an egg laying machine, NOT a meat bird by any stretch of your immagination. That $0. 38 bird in NO bargain !!! The mature bird will weigh in at 4.5 lbs.. They are a flyer, flighty, spritely, noisy, nervous, and avoids human contact type of a bird. Since TIME IS MONEY... you will spend the greater part of the year in feeding , tying up your land, buildings, and your time to give you a 2 pound scrauny carcass that will be tough as shoe leather and best served up in a stew or soup. Now with a Cornish X. you will get a tender 1 1/2 -2 pound game hen in around 30 days, a 3.5+ lb frier in 42 days for you to enjoy for a Bar B Que. 8- 10 lbs in 12 weeks for a roaster. Have fun !

Yeah the 12 weeks was just a number. I'm sure they have came a long way since the last time I raised colored broilers this it how long it took. Which was about 6 years ago.

They are much easier to raise than the cornish, but for me I can't justify another 4 weeks before slaughter. A lot of my customers have grown found of buying a 6 or so birds every 6 weeks.

This statistic is taken dirctly from JM Hatcherie's web site ! www.jmhatchery.com/free-range-broiler/colored-range-chicks/prod_5.html# " Based on results and expeiences of our own flocks and our customer flocks the Colored Range Broilers assorment will reach 4-5 lbs. LIVE WEIGHT in a minimum of 9 weeks ( 63 days) and a maximum of 11 weeks ( 77 days). In no way does this data construe a warranty or guarantee of same performance as conditions of nutrition, management, health, density or physical and biological environments ( weather and relief) vary from producer to producer." Brunty_ Farms' free ranged Cornish X average 3.5 lbs dressed at 6 weeks (42 days). Just a wee bit of difference in time. Based soley on this provided data, Brunty_Farms can produce almost TWO crops of dressed chicken in almost the same time frame. As they say TIME IS MONEY !!!
