Best meat birds, NOT Cornish cross

I can say I like my old scale. It is a hanging spring milk scale and will weigh up to 60 pounds. I got it at an estate sale for $20.
It has 2 needles to weigh more than 30 pounds, which function I have not used yet.
Nice scale!
I got an analog doctor's scale off craigslist for $40 last year. Heavy sucker. Like a triple balance beam. The midwife that had it for 20 years finally upgraded to a 0.5 pound digital scale from this 20 pound behemoth. She was happy to get a lighter scale.

That sounds big! This is pretty big, but can go up on a shelf when not in use. Little jumping cockerels are not the best item to weigh in it! The hand moves a lot with each jump. Next time I will have to use a bucket with a lid.

Yep. Bucket with lid where they can't jump. Wait for them to settle, then use the slide scale to get within half an ounce. Note the weight of the empty bucket.

When weighing carcasses, use a bowl. The blood gets everywhere.

think 30 year old infant scale. Not my image, but it is a Detecto scale.
