I have a duck background with zero experience with chickens but I can tell you two
recent stories about muscovy ducks. An organic farmer in California is turning
loose a flock of muscovy ducks into his farm fields to eat the bugs etc where he
had been using some type of chickens and he said they did much better.
This was in the duck forums and there was no mention of chicken breed.
I do not know what he crop was or what stage of development ?
Also, at a horse farm in Florida the owner is letting muscovys run free
to cut down on the number of flies. Part of the story mentioned how the
ducks would wait by a pile of horse excrement as if it were fly bait
and grab them out of the air. As far as noise goes, muscovy ducks cannot
quack. I think the main difference in keeping them ( compared to chickens)
is that the ducks require a small tub of water or baby swim pool etc to shake
their face in periodically for cleanliness and health.
