We have several bantom chicks and a Rhode island that's the same age so they r all together. Our idea would be to end up with the banties as pets and we only want a full size egg layer to provide us with some normal size eggs in the same house, I have neighbors though so they can't b a loud breed, and then my 3 yr old is very Much part of taking care of them. So I was wanting the calmness. My question is, is this Rhode island pullet prob the best for we want.?

I ain't no expert but I avoided getting RIR's for a mixed flock because so many say they are very aggressive towards other chickens.

I do have one Dominique hen (the breeder suggested her) and she is lovely, very calm, gentle, soooo soft. Truly a delightful girl. There are exceptions in every breed but Dominiques are known to be very sweet and docile and she is all of that. They are also a bit harder to find though.

If you want docile large egg layers Buffs are very popular and very common but since you have a RIR I probably wouldn't pair them. I have a couple of Ameraucaunas, a Dominique, and a little Bantam, I wanted to make sure the breeds would be compatible and I didn't want any overly aggressive or overly submissive breeds that may cause trouble OR get picked on (one of the reasons I didn't get a Buff).

As they get older your standard RIR maybe the "odd bird out" so you might want to get one or two more standards to keep her company.

Well some RIRs can get aggressive. We have had 2 and they were not aggressive but they wanted to be left alone. The best breed through my experience would be

Barred rocks: sweet, bossy sometimes but not mean, great layer, not loud.
Buff orpington: great broodys, sweet, normally head of the pecking order, good layers.
Cochins: very quite and calm, sweet as can be, but doesn't lay a lot.

have fun with your chickens!
Hope it helps!

I am a relative newbie and have only had chooks for a year, but, I think for easy going and quiet, a silkie would be the best fit...I have also found my opringtons and dorkings to be pretty friendly and easy going and friendly....my two cents...
