Best pool for ducks?

dacdeihl, I love your idea & I'd really like to see some photos - do you think you could get some pics the next time you drain/spray/refill to show us? I've been wanting ducks for a few years now, but I need to make it as easy as possible, since I work full time, to be able to clean and refill their pool. This is why I haven't "taken the plungs" with ducks yet, because I'm not going to have something that I can't take really good care of, and the time issue in dealing with the pond is what is really worrying me.

Me too! TerrieLacy and MissPrissy have gotten me interested in ducks, and I'd love to see pics of the sink/drain setup.

I'm buying a 300 gallon stock tank for my TWO Cayugas.

Right now, they have a small kiddie pool, and if they want to, they can stand in it. When Louie is gracefully floating around on the surface, Thelma ducks under the water and ZOOOOOOMS around the pool, which vaults Louie right up and out of the thing!

That's not cool. They need to dive and swim AND float gracefully.

I'm waiting for the stock tank to be delivered by truck.

I have 3 call ducks and bought a rubbermaid "turtle sandbox" for a pool. Sandstone steps (in & out) for them. It's a little smaller than I'd like, but it's easy to dump and clean for now. Have also used a regular kiddie pool, but was harder to clean well.

The sink drain setup sounds like a great project. Love to see pics too!

I use a 55 gallon plastic barrel laid on its side and cut in half the long way with the center section left intact for stability. I bury it partly in the ground with one end exposed, the end with the screw top on the bottom for easy drainage. In the winter I put a small pool heater in the bottom to keep the water from freezing. The ducks like it just fine.

This is what I just ordered from my feed store. We have 34 ducks right now. 19 of those are ducklings and are not in our outdoor pen yet, but I'm going to need something bigger for them! Right now we are using a kiddy pools. I've had them 2+ years with no signs of brittle or cracking. We put them away in the garage before winter.

My feed store was able to get this for $100 less than listed price here.

janastasio, that's somewhat what I was thinking about doing, and sinking it into the ground about halfway. Does the drain hole have like a plug that you unscrew from the inside? Wondering how that works.

dacdeihl, I would really like to see pics of your pool/setup if you have them!!!
