We are about to buy a cabinet incubator. I have researched several sites and am getting a bit flustered at remembering the prices etc. We would appreciate some help.

Which dealer/site has the best price?

We are considering the 1502 Digital Sportsman by GQF. We can order direct from http://www.gqfmfg.com for $719.95 plus shipping. Shipping may be a big deal as we are in Arkansas. Most do not include the shipping. We would consider a used incubator, but we are NPIP and can not afford to buy a used incubator and inherit a disease.

I would suggest a Dickey..These are my personal reasons, now keep in mind I have absolutely nothing against GQF..They are good incubators but here are my reasons for buying a Dickey..
*Temp is taken at Egg level(in the sportsman its taken in front of the coils)
*Metal hatching trays (The sportsman no longer comes with metal trays like the dickey)
*Metal bottom hatching tray with screen(Sportsman comes with a plastic tub, nothing wrong with it but I like the screen metal better)
* I also like being able to call and talk to the man that made my incubator..
Now Id buy a good used sportsman if I ran across one but when I buy another cabinet new it will be another Dickey.

I like the idea of the temperature being taken at egg level.

Your argument for a metal tray with a lid doesn't work for me. There is no need for a lid on the plastic tray as it is deep enough to keep the chicks in. It is necessary to put some sort of liner in it as it is a slick surface.

Not an argument just personal taste is all. Im a blacksmith so metal is in my blood

There is nothing wrong in your preferences. I prefer the plastic tray for two reasons.

1. Galvanized metal trays rust in the humidity maintained in incubators.
2. I hatch turkeys and prefer that they are able to stand up in the tall plastic tray instead of being bent over in the short metal tray with the lid on.
