Which type of roof is better for cold climate. I live in Toronto as you all know how hard Canadian winters can be I wonder which is right type of roof for my new extension. I contacted a new roofing contractor and they recommended. i wonder whether this cedar roof is suitable for cold climate http://www.royalyorkroofing.ca/knowledge-material-cedar.htm .Can anyone share more information about this ?.

You can use whatever type roof you wish... I would suggest that you use similar material to what you already have on your main roof since you're asking about roofing an addition. I would NOT recommend a cedar shake roof for you in Toronto. There are a number of reasons I'd advise against it. In actuality, probably the best roofing material you could choose for pure longevity would be a steel roof.
