Sand litter in cold winter climates?

My guess is it would be the same. If I get swiped by a pine branch while mowing I get a raised red rash.
Would bringing organic matter into the coop invite pests such as live and mites? I don’t plan on free-ranging. They’d get taken out by our barn cats in a day. But they do have a 8x10’ covered run that I plan to put sand in once they pick it clean.
Pine sap and pine tar have a residue that will cause a rash.

I think the sweeter heater is zero clearance as well double check the product description. It just means that it can be screwed straight to a wood wall and you don't have to have any concerns for fire risk or it can be right up against flammable bedding etc without fire risk (without MUCH fire risk atleast anything that runs on electricity has a little risk but these are known to be safe) because it's a radiant panel theres nothing that could spark or ignite like a heat bulb or space heater etc.

It also means the birds can literally sit on it if they wanted and not burn themselves, although my cozy coop panels on high feel pretty toasty to my touch atleast so I keep it on medium jsut in case they do press up directly against it.

This is how I have them set up. They look like little flat screens 😂

Thanks for the info! I’ll have to look at the specs. I know there are no settings on mine. At least none that I saw. Just a panel with a cord. Nice setup, btw!

I'm contemplating going the solar panel route (with controller) and backup battery.

Harbour Freight and or Northern Tool seems a low cost option

I’ve been hesitant to do solar. We can have days of cloud cover and I don’t know enough about it to be assured of consistent service. Best wishes, if you decide to go that route!

I was thinking more of a backup system. My electricity provider likes it when I use my heaters in the coop. Gotta get one over on them somehow.

If you are looking for a good space heater for your coop, look up Vornado space heaters. They have multiple settings, and an auto tip over shutoff.

I remember 1984. I was attending a community college. My car had the "lift up to open" door handles. I ended snapping both of them off it was so cold.

Fortunately a buddy was with me and my car had frameless windows. We twisted 2 coat hangers together, and he guided me and we got the inside door handle hooked, and the door open.

I was so elated I absent mindedly closed the door. We both rolled our eyes and started laughing The 2nd time was easier. I got 2 door handles from a junkyard and installed them.

This was waaay before "keyless entry.
