Can anyone recommend a great source or sources for getting a quality chicken coop that doesn't cost thousands?

Thanks, in advance! :):):)

Welcome to BYC!

If you already have your chicks, your timeline is already ticking. Lol. They get rowdy fast!

How old are they?

Honestly, because you already have them a quick option would be a shed conversion. If you check your local sales groups, craigslist, Facebook marketplace frequently people give them away or sell for reasonably cheap and the conversion is reasonably easy. Just an idea, maybe?

They're one week old today : )

Yes...I've considered that too...but I'm afraid I wouldn't have the capacity to do it on my own.

Aw, so cute at that age!

Don't get so discouraged in yourself. It's a lot easier than it sounds! It's mainly just common sense, people just find the idea overwhelming. If you can find a used pre-built, your main needs are roosting bars, ventilation, and whatever door setup you choose.

I did have the help of my husband to put up this metal one, but aside from assembling everything, it was a breeze to convert and way cheaper than wood. We cut out ventilation holes, I'm keeping the doors and I manually open them every morning. We are in the desert and we will be installing a swamp cooler as I feel it will get to hot inside in triple digit heat.

Thank you for sharing! I do have a metal shed that is falling apart (came with the property)...we shall see what happens ; ) I only have a few weeks and I don't want to risk them not having a SUPERB home outside.
