Best Tactic on raising broilers for food, and feed costs?

Hello everyone,

I am wanting to see if in the future I could raise some broilers for family consumption and to sell at a very small local amount.
Since I am new to this I am really not sure what would be very intelligent to do in purchasing feed, and how to get it at a better price. What I really would like to know is what is ussually the amount that cornish cross broilers eat during the two months of their life to produce a 4-5+ bird? Looking at how much each bird ussually eats in weight amount could give me the amount I would need to purchase in feed and how much it would cost to purchase feed for the amount of broilers I would like to raise.

I would appreciate any information and suggestions on the above and any other information including feed costs, and how to purchase feed for cheaper, etc.

For "cumulative feed consumption" to 9 weeks of age: 6,000 grams is about 13 pounds.

As for saving money on cost of feed, that would depend a lot on how many broilers you are feeding. With enuf birds, you can work out a deal for bulk feed with a local mill.

I see and have actually seen this chart but what I dont understand is which column are you supposed to follow, the cumulative feed consumption or the weekly feed consimption column? For those who have actually raised broilers what is the estimated amount that each broiler will eat in feed per week or per day?
