Best thing in your run -- besides the chickens, of course!

We are almost finished building our new run for our girls, after a too-close-for-comfort hawk encounter. It's built onto our existing enclosure which is where the coop, nesting boxes & food are located.

The run is 10' x 26' and 8' tall, because I want to be able to go out & sit with them. I've got a dirt bath to go in there, and a tower for roosting. There will be some planters with things growing especially for the girls -- with protection for the plants.

What is your favorite element in your run or enclosure that you & your hens especially love? What else can I add to make a chicken paradise?

Nothing special, but I have a serious of stumps side by side that are different heights and mine love perching on them.

Your run sounds like bird paradise!

I put in branches for them to perch on. I put them in at varying heights so that the chickens can hop around on them and use their wing muscles to fly up to the high branches.

I also have a few branches, my bantam roo loves using them to get on my level xD

I put a few rotting logs on the ground,, and roosts in the corners. Bushy weeds add interest, a volunteer elm tree is now providing shade. And there was a volunteer tomato plant...the girls enjoyed harvesting cherry tomatoes one year.....

I have shade trees and rain/shade tables for the birds to get under when it rains and for shade. They like to get under their tables.The birds do get let out for some pasture time.

That's hilarious. Never do that with a rooster in there, he will actually fight with it and smash it...no fooling!
