Best time to trap a feral cat???

I have spoken to someone who does kitten rescues. The kittens will go to farmers who have mice etc. in their barns. I am not too sure what happens to the mother, she may either be put down or spayed and go to the barns too.

I agree with you in terms of the damage they do to wildlife - my masters is in conservation so I do not want these animals to reproduce either so hopefully the people who get them for rodent control will also get them spayed.

We have wild birds, chipmunks and squirrels in or backyard. We currently have blue birds that are working on their second clutch of babies.

I do not want to transfer the cat problem to someone else, but if someone can protect their livihood from rodents and be responsible I am hoping this will be a solution.

Thanks for the advise I have set the trap with some cat food and hopefully I can catch her soon.

I don't own a gun and live in a suburb so would probably get in trouble if I did.

While you can't shoot a gun in the suburb, you can certainly own one, lol. Lucky you that you still have chipmunks etc. We have no chipmunks or bunnies thanks to the ferals. Please, call the rescue and ask if they'll make sure everyone is spuetered before being rehomed. Why continue such a horrible cycle?

I never see any female ferals but I have successfully trapped at least 3 males. If I see any cats hanging around, I get the trap ready - I use small cans of cat food and set up the hav-a-heart trap in my horse shed overnight and almost always have the cat by morning.

In our area we have trap and release so I take the cat to my vet and get it neutered, first they check it for feline leukemia (if positive the cat will be euthanized). then I bring it home. Sometimes they hang around and some don't but at least they can't make more cats. They catch rats and mice and the occasional jackrabbit. I have no lack of birds and we don't have chipmunks or squirrels...the coyotes take care of that.

I agree with Miltonchix, 22LR with scope is adequate. I once caught a feral cat in my cage trap I set up for Raccoons, it was the most vicious spitting hissing angry clawing animal I have ever caught.

you can trap them in morning or early evening when it she not so hot outside yes you could rehome them in the barn after get them sprayed. and take a kitten to be house cats. the female stop going after birds n rabbits if you throw food out for them in the barns. i have 6cats ferals and they became lap cats ,2 of them was over 2 yrs old males, 1 female about 1 1/2 old , kitten male was 8weeks old, female kitten about 5monthes old and my last one was about 9monthes old male kitten.
and i got them all S/N and just my females want to go out during the day. my females cats bring me moles, and leave my chicks n wild birds alone. the males cats stand by the door and walks away from a open door.

The kittens are all going to homes. I trapped the mother cat early yesterday evening. The person that took her is taking her straight to the vet to get her spayed. The kittens will be spayed or neutered when they are old enough.

I am very happy getting these cats out of the neighborhood.
