I have been pondering the thought of raising a couple of turkeys.....but I don't know anything about them. I would just be raising them until it was time to put them on the table for Thanksgiving.
I am wondering what breed is best and how hard are they to butcher? We have only butchered chickens. Do you chop theirs heads off the same as chickens? I'm wondering how hard it would be for just one person to do the job because they are such powerful birds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

since you want a turkey for thanksgiving.most all of the breeds of turkeys will work.because all of them would be ready for thanksgiving.

We raised 2 bourbon red hens last year. They were excellent for Thanksgiving. The dispatching is rather like a large chicken. No difference. This year I am doing standard bronze turkeys and broad breasted bronze for harvesting for the holiday. And goose for Christmas.
