Mine had the gasket in place......eveything looked good, just kept leaking...

A little vegetable oil on the gasket will help a LOT.

When you fill it, watch it for a minute. If the pan fills more than about half full, it's leaking.

I can usually hear the air coming in and just tighten it a little more.

I use a folgers coffee can with a hole near the lid. the hole needs to be below the plant base though.
