Best way to evacuate chickens?

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to evacuate 6 chickens? I was thinking about using my dog's large crate. Any other ideas?

A dog crate is a great for 6 chickens. That's how we moved our hens here.

dog crate should work, bring a few extra comforters or heavy blankets to toss over them if the smoke gets a little thick. All birds are more sensitive to smoke than we are. They might survive the evacuation and just tip over from smoke inhalation.

Don't forget their food and waterers.

I use a collapsible kennel for large birds (ducks, turkeys) and dog crates for chickens.

I've transported sevral times in dog crates, they'll work fine.

Cat boxes are also good - you can get a couple of large fowl or three bantams in there fairly comfortably. You can also usually get them off freecycle or similar - ours came free from my dad's colleague and has proved very useful for isolation & transport!
