I recently saw a post on BYC about constructing your own electric water warmers using bottle lamp kits and cookie tins. They were super quick and easy to put together, and a 40 watt incandescent bulb keeps the water in a plastic waterer from freezing even during below zero temps. The waterer rests atop the cookie tin with the lamp inside. Not one bit of icing occurred during a recent cold wave here.
