Hey guys! Today I picked up 7 Red Shoulder Yokohama chicks! I currently have 2 Phoenix chicks about 10 weeks old! I dont know if you'd consider them chicks but anyway I'm curious on the best way you guys have found to raise them? I'm almost finished with my 18x8 chicken condo where the top floor is 12 individual hen houses w roosts and laying boxes on wire with access to a run underneath the hen house via ramp so they would have access to the ground? Would this be a good choice to raise them in or should I keep them strictly in my wire cage? I can't find any information really on how to raise yokohamas when I google! I dont know what's up I figured this would be discussed often considering their tail length! Does anyone know exactly how long their tails get? On average? And like up to (the longest it can be?) Any info on this breed is appreciated! I'm new to these guys and wanna learn all I can!

I've never had any Yokohamas, nor have I ever known anyone else in 50 years of raising chickens who has had them so you may have difficulty finding much advice on this subject (it's probably why I'm the first reply). I have run across a few articles that deal with some of the special considerations of raising this long tailed breed. You can check them out by clicking on the following links:

Hope this helps at least a little. Good luck with your Yokohamas.

Oh wow really? I have Malays that I have read there are only 500 breeding birds in the world left! They take 3 years to mature and mine are just chicks so well see! Hatched them last night ;-) Full Stock! I also have a pair of Phoenix and then 7 Yokohamas! I seen the parents I bought the chicks from and they were beautiful! I just wanted to know what others have learned that works best! I didn't realize they were that rare! I mean I have read they were rare breed but I seen a hatchery had them so I figured they were fairly easy to find since I did find some in a days time when posting online! How crazy thanks for the info ill check it out right now!
