Best way to trap and kill a fox?

Bump. Will a fox go into a live trap? Maybe use a live chicken as bait?

Let’s get back on topic. The live trap would work. Once caught, dispatch the animal or contact your local DNR about a possible relocation.

I fell victim to a trap that is archaic and barbaric. I sympathize with animals but believe in fair chase. I will hunt an animal and trap using a live trap and a .22 to dispatch said animal.

It was also an illegal trap, set illegally. Nothing to do with legal regulated use of foothold traps.

More than likely the OP has more than one problem animal. Canines carry off the bird leaving just some feathers. If there was a carcass left it may have been a raccoon.

I agree with that. Raccoon attacks look like a Hollywood crime scene.

Again, just for clarification:

The Hollywood scene might be true I guess? ... but raccoons will very often attack and kill a chicken, and only eat the head and neck.

or..... let the fox be and secure your chickens!!!
remove one fox and another moves in, better to find another way I think.

This is a good point to think about too, while I personally trap as needed when needed, I also provide a very critter proof setup for my chickens to prevent losses.

I went to bed one night just this week with a very large possum in the yard, confident that he would not be able to get into my coop, and confident that I will catch it at my leisure if it makes a habit of hanging around.

Yes, I did. It is a perfectly legitimate question and I see nothing wrong with it. I would rather lose one more chicken and get the fox than lose the rest of them and still have a killer on the loose.
