Where I live I can't have any roosters, so I want to know the best ways to tell the difference between female and male chicks. Does anyone have ideas?

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. If the chicks are auto-sexing breeds or sex-linked hybrids, they can be sexed by color. Otherwise you will have to wait until they are a couple of months old to sex them accurately. Around that time, cockerels will develop very red combs and wattles. Pullets combs and wattles will not turn red until they are pretty close to laying age. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

The only surefire way to be certain you have females is to buy young laying hens.
