Betta fish being picky

Great! I just wanted to check because a lot of new fish owners (me included) aren't made aware of everything fish need, unfortunately.
Yes I did my research before I got her, I'm not gonna lie, last year I had one in a one gallon bowl and the fish in it died so I looked up what happened and I was pretty upset, so i got a bigger tank filter heater and thermometer and my new favorite type of fish.

Your betta is very lucky to have such a good owner!

Thanks, shes already super people friendly, shes at the top anytime I go in the room
Aww, that's cute. I really love bettas. Mine is called Mooki. He's about 4 years old now, and he doesn't really swim anymore (he can, but he just prefers to rest most of the time). But when he was younger he would always swim over to greet me. I also taught him some tricks. You should try that with your betta too!

Ooh I think I'll have to try, shes only about a year old, what kind of tricks can they learn

Mine loved the bug bites type! You could try those. I think they’re more appetizing for them since it’s more meat or whatever. I think they’re by Fluval. They have a few different kinds so make sure to get the ones for bettas but yeah.

Omega One is another good brand but I’m not sure if they have betta food or not. I think so but idk if stores carry it or ? You could maybe find it online if not. I’ve fed it to my goldfish and they loved it so should be good for bettas too.

Also, I know it sounds kind of mean but I would stop providing the flakes and do pellets only. Fish aren’t stupid and they won’t starve themselves to death. She should get hungry enough and eat them eventually. Right now she’s being given a choice and she’ll go for what she’s used to cause she may not recognize the pellets as food too. If she gets hungry she should try them provided they aren’t too big for her (another thing to look into). Fish can actually go a very long time without food and it’s actually recommended to occasionally fast your fish anyway so yeah.
