I know this is an old thread but I thought I would join. I have two bettas, Gill and Marlin. They are moving into a divided 20 gallon as soon as I get it set up. I have had Gill for three years, and Marlin for one. They are the best fish.

I put my Betta in with my guppies, because I thought surely he won't mess with them, and he didn't . . . but he sank to the bottom of the tank and would not get up. . . .this went on for quite sometime, days I mean, and finally I took him out and put him in a gallon size vase, (no plants . . .) and he perked right up and has been fine since . . .I thought maybe he was so use to such a small bowl (HATE HATE to see them at the pet stores and WM in those plastic tubs. . .makes me so sad) that he was overwhelmed with all the space.

My bettas name is Biff

He is like a blue/purple mix. I got him while I was away at school (came back home after my first semester!) I was going absolutely crazy going from having a house full of numerous animals to absolutely nothing lol so I got biff so that I could just have something to take care of and not feel so alone! And he came back home with me (3 hour ride) where he rode on the center counsel in my truck the whole way :) he now lives at home with me :)

I just got a beautiful purple/red/blue male betta from the petstore... He was so lonely in his little cup, I had to buy him

He is a a 20 gallon tank with lots of plants, a heater, and a pump... I love him so much, I decided to buy a female to keep him company. She lives oon the other half of the tank ( I placed a glass lid in the middle of the tank, and so he can see her. He immediatly built a bubble nest! So i let her out... and he is sooooo nice to her!! He doesn't chase her at all, and I think they will breed very soon

Ill wait and see, but his bubble nest is really cool.

- the female is purple and blue too :)

At what age can the female breed? The petshop said she was too young, but she is showing vertical stripes, has a dot near the fins, and is wiggle-dancing to the male...?

Do you have a picture of her? What do you plan on doing with the offspring? I also love Bettas but they are a dime a dozen is most area. Rearing the fry can be quite difficult and finding all of the fry home can be quite a task.

I have at least 5 friends who are ok to take some fry into their ( empty ) tanks. They have no fish in them so it's ok if the get only females or seperate the tanks. With the males I'm putting them into my pond as the petshop showed me they need no heater. But if they do, I can heat the pond. With the other fry, I'm supplying a petstore near by. They agreed to buy a load of fry and raise them themselves... unless they buy adults too :)

As for the female, I'm going to leave her in the tank. If everything goes well, she'll stay there. If he seems like he's going to breed again, I'll put the divider in.

I have no photo as my camera isn't working, but I can discribe her:
she is like a normal female betta, very small, brown body, But really colourful fins. I chose the best coloured female, and she is really pretty. She is healthy too, and is showing vertical stripes. She is purple, red, blue and sort of pinky.

What kind of betta fish do i have?!?! She beautiful and her name is jewel, but I have no idea if she is even a female or what kind of betta she is. HELPPP!
