Better use of space ideas

I don't feel adding protruding nest boxes is going to gain you very much space. If it was mine, I'd probably simplify the roosts/poop boards into the L or U shape. Then add the nest boxes underneath the right side like you indicated - but instead of building outward, I'd just leave them underneath the poop board and make an access door on the exterior to get the eggs - that way you won't need to deal with fabricating a protruding structure that needs to be weatherproofed.
This is exactly what I was going to suggest! Great minds, eh?

That's a nice coop! Mine is a larger version and similarly set up without the ramps. I have no problems cleaning, but I find it feels cluttered. My previous coop had the "L" roosts, and I found it much more space-conscious.

ETA: Also in my old coop, I had space under the shorter part of the "L" for a brooder/isolation arra and I installed shelving above for small supplies. I miss that setup! I'm building a new coop in a couple of months, and you have reminded me how much I liked that setup. Im going that route again.
