Mine are only just under a week old and they have been swimming already when I clean them. I only put enough water in there so they can reach bottom and the deeper part is just a tad deeper. I use luke warm water and also toss in some cut up green beans (I don't have peas because I ate them all opps) and they love just scoping them up and zooming around.
