Between the Bees, Coop Outfitting

Worked on wrapping the base of the coop with hardware cloth. Used @aart’s advice of rolling the whole length needed out first.

Dug out the gravel using an old drop cloth so I wouldn’t lose too much in the surrounding soil.

Put the cloth in with 1 ¼” narrow crown staples then re-covered with the gravel. I will come back later on with some trim and screws, both to make it a more secure connection and to minimize the gap.

Finished . . . for now.

Ended up losing a bit of gravel, but the drop cloth worked pretty well!

Hoping that tomorrow is warm enough to work again!

Nice!

Yes, well, hmph. So it turns out that if you have a dado (?) like that in your wood, Kreg screws/joints don’t work so well. No matter how many clamps I used I could NOT get those dados (I really feel like I’m using the wrong word here, rabbet?) to line up. Had to scrap two days worth of work to start over again. Sigh.

In other news I wrapped the plain pressure treated columns with cedar both to beef them up visually and to make them match the garage better. Also finished them with urethane.

Hopefully plan B will work better with the windows. In other news I found that a plywood blade on a circular saw (as per manufacturer’s directions) is HUGE overkill for the Lexan. In the future I shall use a box knife (which was my first instinct).

Please note the RV is expanded and ready for the inundation of relatives. Not that this has much bearing on the coop other than a slow down in progress!

Arrrghhh!! Tricky business!
Got a sketch of window plan?
Not sure of term...slot, groove??
Is the piece shown above with grooves on both edges, for a center muntin?
Grooves look a bit off, slightly different widths, which might be the prob?
I know you're probably not making double hung windows,
but some of these terms may still apply....rail, stile, muntin, pane.

Trashed my chop saw fence by trying to cut thin lexan with a large toothed blade, grabbed it and BAM!! Need more and smaller teeth to cut thin stock.
