This summer, we had a friend visiting us. He had previously seen the chickens in their coop, but had never seen them free ranging. He was shocked when 31 hens ran straight at him. He jumped and said; "they run TOWARD you?"! Silly visitor, of course they do.

Last night, when I called my two girls, they started by running to me. But then deciding the other hen might get there first, they both started flying to me. I found this too funny

, but I can imagine someone not fond of chickens might be scared by 2 very large black copper marans hurtling toward them.

I am not sure they are really faster in the air than while running, but I won't embarrass the girls by pointing this out.

Our friend showed up with his teenage little sister one day and she ended up backing towards the front door all the way from the car. Our production red chicken, our friendly, silly, funny thing was following her "Booooock!! Boooock!!!!" and she was totally freaked. She thought it was an attack chicken. (I have to admit, that chicken did have a really weird voice, she sounded like a chicken-witch)

I had to reassure her that the hen was perfectly safe. Stay away from the rooster, though... I am sure that made her feel much better.

My Best friend came over the other day and called from her cell phone in the driveway because my yard rooster wouldn't let her out of her car. The funny thing is that is why I haven't eaten him yet I want him to keep any strangers that come a knocking at bay.

Mine love to mob my Mama's car when she visits, I end up having to rescue her with bread and bits of zuchini. Until lately, she has started showing up with BOSS and has no problems!
