Yes they seen to do that a lot. The rooster does not seem to mind but the hens do. I do have some groupings that seem to like to stay together, the Delaware and Australorp for example. I can tell a difference in the personalities by breed, at least with some of mine, so I tend to think it is more by personality than looks, but who knows.
