I apologize ahead of time for the lengthy post. I'm really excited as, as of 3 days ago, I've been a chicken tender for a whole year! We love all of our babies dearly and with my birthday upcoming, lots of new fun things are in process. Skip below if you want to miss the chatter and get right to the goods for claiming eggs!

So my dear husband decided for my birthday, he was going to build me a new coop and a breeding building (divided into 3-4 roomy breeding pens)! My birthday is May 2nd so I of course wanted to make sure we had chickens to fill out the new coop when it's finished. My goal for this new coop is to eventually have growouts for both selling and breeding projects. We will eventually probably end up with a separate growout pen specifically for breeding projects, but for now since it's a big frame with lots of room, we'll lump 'em together as also I've only given a handful of chicks/birds locally to folks I know who were looking. 🥰

We've got quite a few Roos, all of whom get along swimmingly even still as they're now hitting 1 year old, so we've got a fair range of parents for the BYM eggs! I've also ordered some cute D'uccle mix eggs as we've also fallen QUITE in love with them along with our OEGBs, some Calico Bantam Cochins, AND a fun pen Silkie eggs mix! (The breeder is who we got our VERY fluffiest beautiful Splash roo Silkie, Honker, from. She is awesome and was so kind as to make sure these eggs could get to me in time to set hopefully to hatch on my birthday)

Our Standard boys:
Rocky - Barred Rock (the head honcho and part of our oldest group, who just turned 1 year old on April 1st!)
Li'l Red - Red Shouldered Yokohama
Fancy Pants - Gold Laced Cochin
Honker - Splash Silkie
Ranch - Splash Polish
Dum Dum - Unknown Silkie Mix (red partridge coloring - he's gorgeous!)
Appa - Tolbunt Polish (HEAVY white on him - he was a project 'oopsie' result from the breeder we got him from but was too sweet so she wanted to be sure she sold him to someone who wasn't trying to breed project Tolbunts as he's not SOP-friendly for what they're hoping to get accepted into the APA/SOP? I'm out of the loop on a lot of these things but I'm learning - but he is a cutie!)
Toblerone - Tolbunt Polish
Shadow - Ayam Cemani
Our Bantam boys:
Coco - Frizzle Calico Bantam CochinSarge - Splash Bantam Cochin (head honcho and quite good with the ladies)
Alarm - Red OEGB
Splotch - Mille Fleur D'uccle
Li'l Rocky - Bantam Barred Rock
Superman - Gold Sebright

Our girls are a wide range of breeds: Bantam Ameraucana (Black and Lavender), Ameraucana, Americana/Easter Eggers/Olive Eggers, Appenzellar Spitzhaubens (gold), Australorps, Ayam Cemani, D'uccles (Mille Fleur, Porcelain, Self-Blue, Golden Neck), Barred Rocks, Brahmas (Light, Buff, and even two big beautiful Porcelain Brahmas), Sicilian Buttercup, Crazy Cackle Toppie (some kind of crevecoeur/Silkie cross), Salmon Faverolles, Egyptian Fayoumi, Icelandics, Silver Spangled Hamburg, Jersey Giants (black, blue, and splash), Leghorns (white and brown), Cuckoo Marans, Turkens, Old English Game Bantams (Tomato is still alive and VERY VERY well! She was the little OEGB I assisted hatching in one of my hatchalongs - she's laying eggs and is great friends with Hazel!), Orpingtons (Lavender English, Black English, Jubilee English, Buff), Polish (splash, white, buff laced, and tolbunt), Silkies (black, white, splash, and a handful of mixes!), Rhode Island Reds, Sebright (Gold), Sumatras (blue, black), Speckled Sussex, Yokohama (red-shouldered and silver duckwing), Phoenixes (black breasted red, golden duckwing), Bantam White Sultans, White Sultans, Bantam Red Jungle Fowl, Bantam Cochins (White, Black, Red, Buff, Lavender - the buff is currently broody and man is she mean! LOL), OEGBs (Self-Blue/Lavender, Black Breasted Red, Golden Duckwing, PAINT, Splash - the Paint was supposed to be from white and black so my guess is one of the whites was dominant white? I think that's how it works. Maybe not - back to chicken genetic learning! Ahaha)

I collected eggs from both our Bantam coop and our Standard coop, and ordered hatching eggs! Just let me know an egg or two you'd like to cheer on! I will set the D'uccles/Cochins on the 7th and the Silkies/BYMs on the 11th and hopefully hatch those Silkies/BYMs out on May 2nd on my birthday! The new coop'll fit 120 chickens at a 5 square foot per bird ratio so I went big on the hatching eggs knowing our rates may not hit 50% hatched due to some being shipped as well as us not really knowing our farm fertility rates (another reason to test 'em out to see what it's like without breeding pens in case someone local's looking for hatching eggs of any kind - classrooms/schools, etc.) I've got 5 incubators that hold 150 eggs in total (30 each) soooo. :lauI figured better safe than sorry in case rates are low, but we'll have more than enough space if they aren't. Our Bantam coop is still barely half full and everyone is getting along wonderfully, so not worried about adding more straight to there either! (After our usual month-long see-no-touch introduction period once they're old enough, naturally)

There's 48 BYMs from us, 36 Silkie Fun Pen eggs, 7 Bantam Calico Cochin eggs, and 9 D'uccle mix eggs for a total of 100 eggs!
I'll update with a pic of the silkie eggs/BYMs when the Silkie eggs get here! For now, I've got a pic of our D'uccle mix/Calico Cochin eggs. 🥰

So we're expecting D'uccle Mixes/Cochin Bantams on the 28th and Silkies/BYMs on May 2nd!
