Big comb for tiny silkie chick?

Okay so silkies are known for being absolutely difficult to sex, I picked one of my silkies chicks up today and actually looked it over and noticed this huge comb for such a little chick. I only got 2, the other ones comb is basically non existent while this ones comb is like sticking out lol. Sorry for the bad quality photos, he/she wouldn’t stop squirming around, probably mad he/she couldn’t go outside since it was so rainy and crappy.

Adorable! Still too young to tell. Silkies are infamous for being hard to sex. Sometimes until they lay an egg or crow!

Silkies have walnut combs, that one looking like a single, or is it the angle? I'm guessing it's a cockerel by his head feathering & all that comb. Keep us updated.

I agree it has a single comb but I am not sure if rooster or not

I'm thinking it's male but the comb is entirely wrong for a silkie. They should have walnut combs.

Yeah it definitely doesn’t have a walnut comb like silkies are supposed to, hmm

Where did you get him/her? A few of my Silkies from TSC have pretty big single combs for being 2 week olds. I’m guessing that they were crossed with something other than a Silkie and/or it’s because they’re ‘hatchery quality’. The rest of mine have walnut combs.

Yes some hatchery silkies have single combs, I had a few in my all silkie order a few years ago
