Has anyone seen anything like this? I have poured through the pages and anything to do with eyes. Her sinuses are not swollen, she is breathing fine, there is nothing bubbling out of her eye. i saw her shaking her head some a couple weeks ago, but didn't pay a lot of attention because she was acting fine. Last Saturday I noticed her eye. She is shaking her head because she is (quite quickly) rubbing her eye on her feathers. I started her on prednisone drops twice a day and sulfacetamide sodium opthalmic (antibiotic) drops twice a day. I also put duramycin in her water. It's been a week and no change. She can see out of the eye just fine and as you can see her sinuses are not swollen at all. Her little coop buddies are all fine. Anybody have any ideas? Chicken vets are hard to find here in the valley! She is about 2 1/2 months old.

Thank you, she is a sweet little thing, although I think she is starting to get a little upset at my pestering her twice a day. Lol.

I can't answer the problem about the bulging eye. Sometimes it is seen in baby chicks, and many of those cannot see and die rather quickly. A respiratory disease (such as mycoplasma) usually causes conjunctivitis, a redness and drainage of the tissue around the eyes, and may cause sinus infection which causes swelling of the face or eyelid. But the eyeball itself should not be affected. In my other animals, I have seen a bulging eyeball when there has been bleeding into the eye. Those usually cause a red tint and enlarged pupil. Is the skin under the right eye inflamed or swollen?

You know, it doesn't look swollen but when I look at the picture I posted it does look a little red. Hmmmm.... interesting. I will go out here in a bit and inspect that earlobe area again.

Ok, well this is new. There is a little red spot in the earlobe area which could be nothing... lol! It wasn't there for the first picture. She closes her eye in protest of being doctored, but it's usually open. I am not sure this clears anything up. I went through 7 days of duramycin, I could try tylan but I am not sure if it's something the antibiotics are actually treating. My little bug eyed girl.

Thank you, I will. I would be heartbroken if I lost this one!
