Big hatcheries 90% sexing accuracy

Just wanted to add they also sex based on wing feathers on the k gene, slow or fast feathering.

Cackle hatchery gave me exactlly what i purchased in past years, and so did my local feed store which gets their chicks from ideal hatchery.

I also bought 2 "pullets" from tsc last year but one was huge and i picked it with the hopes it was a male, sure enough it was

From TSC I have gotten 5 Black Jersey Giants (1 was a roo), 5 red sex links (0 roos), 5 white leghorns (1 was a roo) and 5 Olive Eggers (2 were roos). So 20% fail. Actually I can’t remember if some were labeled as straight run. But I kept all the roosters except one OE since I only needed one.

The rooster is a meanie-butt. I’m actually trying to work with him before throwing in the towel. He’s 2 years old now. The rooster definitely maxes out on the height given. The females are also pretty big, but I haven’t really weighed them or anything so I am only estimating from sight, but they’re not significantly bigger than my other chickens. I’ll try to take a pic of them either today or tomorrow. (Out of the 5 BJG I only have 3 left, the rooster and 2 hens)

I am actually thinking of ordering some from Cackle Hatchery since I had a good experience with them when I purchased my guineas/keets last year. Also, I want to compare them to my BJGs since they’re not “giants” compared to my other chickens and roosters. I’ll take a pic tomorrow I completely forgot today and it’s dark already over here.

This is a pic from a year ago. Not sure if he’s grown more since then. But you can see that the female BJGs are really about the same as the Red Sex Link hens. I was looking at my other roosters and my Production Red rooster and Olive Egger rooster are both around the same height as my BJG. So I may actually get some from Cackle Hatchery and see if theirs will be bigger. But I do love that they’re nice and plump.

I bought 12 pullets from a local Tractor Supply in 2018. One breed was not what it was labelled, but I got 12 pullets. I've been very happy with my girls. They aren't show quality but they lay well and they hatched out 23 chicks last spring.

I ordered from Hoover 4 weeks ago. It was an order of 27 chicks. I ordered 4 cuckoo marans sexed pullets and now find that 2 are cockerels. Thats 50% accuracy. Not happy.
