Hi there,

Just introducing myself:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

YES!!! About three months ago my husband and I moved to the country from a city suburb. One of the first things on my list was to get chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

16

(3) What breeds do you have?

Not sure. Three BIG white ones (next door neighbor called them Fryer Chickens...they don't lay eggs.) Ten skinny black ones - one mother and 5 hens, 4 rosters. Think these are Asian of some sort. One brown one that lays me a brown egg (think she's a red rock). And another one that I house in my 4-season porch as she was getting pounded on all the time. Felt bad for the little gal. We've named her Matilda.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

off the web.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

yoga, scuba diving, 4-wheeling

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to sharre.

We have a little yorkie too - Chewy

I've been looking around at this website and WOW - kind of overwhelming.... Looking forward to learning lots and hope to post some insight of my own in the future.

We've just moved to a 40 acre lot with some of it grass, some meadows, some forest, and it's on a lake. Quite the place for chickens - I tell ya!

Yes - I love that everyone is so nice - goes along with my state's "Minnesota Nice". It's true, as I grew up in San Jose, CA...and there are some "not-so-nice" folks there. Anyway, happy fact hunting!

Welcome to the Back Yard Chickens and glad to have you here in Minnesota! Yep, I'm another Minnesotan.

I was blown away at this site, too. Its easy to let time slip away with all that's in here. There's no way I would have been able to learn as much as I have if I hadn't been able to read the threads on here. This site is incredible.

There's a lot of people with a good sense of humor and some of the threads have had me rolling.

If you're into cooking (and even if you're not), the recipes are to drool over. There's stuff in that section I never would have thought about, like how to season a cast iron pan or make homemade yogurt. I'm thinking real serious about getting the cookbook that is newly released with recipes from the members.

There are even threads on how to butcher chickens. You've got the meat chickens, so you may be interested in doing a search. (I love the search!) This is my first year having chickens and this site is were I learned how to butcher (as well as every thing else). I can proudly say I butchered my meat chickens myself! Not bad for growing up a city girl.

I hope you enjoy your time hanging out here.
