Here’s a little story above one of my hens. I hate to play favorites but she’s up there.
when my husband and I first started dating in 2018 he had chicks in a spare bedroom in his house. Despite the smell I knew this was the kind of man I wanted!! Long story short he was raising them for his father who lived in the country at the time we lived in the city and chickens werent allowed. Fast forward a few years later the coop my now father in law had was small/no grass/ and the birds were getting cramped and stressed all there feathers were falling out/picking at each other. Also when he went in to feed them his Doberman would try to make her way into the coop and it got to the point where he needed to rehome them. Since then we had bought a house with some acreage so I gladly added them to my original 5 ameraucaunas! BIG MAMA is a big yellow chicken (orphington) she isn’t really a mama (but don’t tell her that) she hasn’t hatched any chicks nor does she brood but that doesn’t making her any less significant! We used to have 2 identical orphingtons one was a little fatter and bigger and she actually let me pet her but unfortunately she was found deceased from what looked like natural causes in the coop about 6 months ago… I cried because she was one of my only chickens who let me pet her. My orphingtons (well now my one BIG MAMA) is def my alpha (or was until I got my black copper maran a week ago I think she’s worked her way up to the top) and anytime I gave them crawfish or live grub worms she’s always the first to steal from the other hens. She’s my biggest and most fluffiest girl and I hope she lives forever and eternity even though this summer she will be 4 years old and is one of my oldest ! Enjoy my pictures of BIG MAMA
