Yikes, doesn't sound good for our computer, it slows down after going on youtube for crying out loud, maybe we actually need to acturally get the updates microsoft/windows offers, lol. Does anyone have any advice that could help me?

Get the latest Service Packs from Microsoft.
And, really? Macs?
You think that just because it's a virus it won't effect you? Maybe it's only a Mac Spacific virus?
Besides, Macs are more vulnerable to get viruses but no one develops them because only 5% of operating systems on PC's are Mac OS.
Oh, and this may have the newest version of malware- bios flashers! http://hackaday.com/2009/03/23/bios-level-malware/
What would this mean? It can attack Mac OS, Vista, XP, Linux and almost any kind of other OS's.
It also would be impossible to remove from the computer because it would be flashed and locked.
thanks for the reminder i saw the news on it i was like WHAT!!! I went in and made sure i was good, i would hate life if my laptop got a virus i just got it 2 months ago, brand new, I have Macfee, and i updated my windows too.

I hate to continue the nerdiness, but without root access (or physical access) these types of attacks are impossible. Which anybody employing the most basic type of computer security should be protected from. (don't let strangers use your computer, and password protect access to it)
Sure there have been mac viruses, but the risk is much lower. Also it really helps when the maker of your computer regularly offers security updates, and listens to reports they receive about vulnerabilities.
But now that I think about it, BYC is probably not the correct forum to have this debate. The bottom line is everyone should make sure they have the most up to date anti-virus, and even more important back up your data, back it up often, and just for safe measure back it up one more time. of course if you have a mac and an extra hard drive Time Machine is already doing that for you.

It's as easy as putting it into an executable format like an .EXE file.
People can take the virus on a flashdrive to the library or school and use it there straight via USB.
Or if someone got their E-Mail's phished, the phisher may send out the EXE as some kind of trick. You think you know who sent it but before you know it, boom! You've reformatted your boot screen to have inappropriate material.
