Big problem with my newly purchased mallard ducks.

It will be 10 foot high in the peak. 6 foot wide and 8 in length.

Yes chicken on the top and duck to the bottom coop. Is there a magic number that ducks can jump in and out of?

Thanks for your response.
I wouldn't recommend ducks jumping from any height they could injure their legs. They would be better off having a ramp to walk into their house. Now this is just my opinion but i have heavy weight Muscovy drakes and one did injury his leg jumping from the side of the stock tank to the ground instead of using the ramp to walk down. and I measured the ramp going into their house it's 32 wide by 38 long I was guessing when i said 3' but it's plenty wide for even my goose to walk up.

Also, do they like live meal worms since I get them for blue birds?
Oh my goodness they would love meal worms live, If I had the space I grow my own, but I buy mine dried in bulk. But most mornings we are out looking in the compost piles for tasty earth worms.

OKay, just gave thejm sliced graps since someone here mentioned here and gave frozen peas and cracked corn and Purina duck chow.

Also, Miss Lydia, I made my coop but the guy is slow and the friends that suppoed to come by that is good had some thing to do. So, I had to here this person that is a friend of a friend. He is slow but we framed it up and put hardware cloth in the floor, and evern uder the plywood where coop is going to be build. He insisted to put harware cloth under plywood since he said racoon can break through sidiing plywood. I think he was juust trying to rack up my bill. Tomorrow we are putting matching roof on the house. Can't wait to paint it. My room mate does not want white trim to patch my other took shed. He want marune. There is about 46" gap between duck and chicken coop and I want to put a shelf in between to have 23" height for ducks so I can have one extram shelf for couple of chicken. This coop is costing me $1100 and I am working with the guy day and night.

I had to throw a brick on a raCCOM TODAY and they were out in broad day light. I have to look up a cage in Google. I will give them Live meal worms.

yes that is what exactly I meant. I will post pictures later. However, I was confused with coop term and pen term. Coop is the housing and pen is where they roam around I guess. Yes it is a 12" high peak with gable roof, 8foot in length and 6 foot wide. back 24" is taken by the coop and the front is the pen area.
I have a question, in the pen area so these ducks do not hurt their feet, can I put in shredded natural pine mulch that smells great instead of straw and wood shavings that really smells? Guys, please look at my garden pictures and be sympathetic. What I can put on the hardware cloth that will smell good and do not need cleaning more than once a week and my garden integrity. As I said I really would appreciate great advices.

Also, can I use insulation in this thing? I am using R-19 insulation. Is insulation is good ideas for these creatures for winter? Please advise.

Sounds awesome and you are spending alot of money but in the end you'll be able to relax knowing they will be safe.

I buy pine shaving at Tractor Supply and it smells good. you want to stay away from cedar the oils[order] are harmful to chickens and ducks. if you want to insulate thats really your choice folks even in Alaska have ducks housed in uninsulated houses. Main thing is to put plenty of ventilation in it, if you do insulate you'll have to cover it too keep them from eating it. What part of USA are you in? will determine if you would need to insulate.

Miss Lydia, I put up some pictures for you to view. Thanks for the insulation comment . I will not put insulation then. May be it will be over kill but since my pen is with the coop and everything is hardware cloth, I thought I will put some in for insulation. Do you think these ducks and chicken will pick on it and be harmed
