I was born & raised a city girl for 48 years, but loved doing a backyard garden with my uncle. Then my hubby said when his military career was over in April of this year, he wanted to move back to Texas where he lived for 4 years before joining the Navy.
So after house hunting for almost a year, we found a home with a acre of land in the country to raise our two little girls. I also started researching chickens too, drove my hubby nuts, but thrilled my two little girls. So we drove from California to Texas in two days, with two U-hauls, towing two cars, we each had one daughter & one dog in the trucks with us. To watch my girls run & play in the front or backyard & feel as safe as I did when we lived on Base, means the world to me.
We now have 13 chickens, (we were married on June 13th, so the number 13 does not phase us. I have also been drooling over the ducklings & goslings I see at the feed store too. And my girls have been asking about rabbits.
I do not miss the city life, and plan on expanding my raised bed garden next year (one garden for the chickens). I have started planting fruit trees too. As for chickens, I wanted the fresh eggs, but like others have posted, I sit for hours watching them chase bugs or each other. I love when they jump on my lap and go to sleep. My girls love going out to hold the chicks, or fight over who is going to give the girls their snacks.
It is a more relaxing lifestyle that I want for my children, they love their chickens.
This is what life is all about, a happy child, because a chick had jumped on her lap and she can pet & love it.
