Big run and coop build

Might wait until after dark and grab them and put them in the coop.

I will do that on days off Wednesday so I can be around the following day. My schedule is crazy. I know they are more docile at night. A few love me but most tolerate me but don’t like me messing with them much. I have about 6-7 that let me pet them and two that always fly up on my shoulder when I’m watering them.

Thank you! It was a design I came up with as I went that worked out well so far. The oak trees are in the perfect spot for the coop and run. The hens get sunshine in the front if they want it and plenty of shade too. The vent side faces due south so it invites a nice breeze through the coop most of the time. Right now is the hottest part of the year here and the coop stays under 80 degrees even on hundred degree days.

The girls are using it already and laying nine eggs a day so far. I need to finish the metal roof on the nest boxes, a few trim pieces then paint three sides. It’s really close!
I have to wait for a little cooler weather to put all the hens in the coop and keep them closed in there for about a week so they will learn to roost in it. They got used to roosting on the cedar post above their temporary a frame I built in the pen. I may have to just remove the a frame and cedar posts for a while until they get trained to roost inside!

I started to see that as I kept reading! I'll be building a new coop next year. Attached to my fenced in area for my dogs. Mine won't be a covered run though. My flock is a "hope you don't get eaten" free ranged bunch lol we have a horrible coyote problem. But they are locked into a secure coop at night. We will probably do a 8 x 12 coop, for 25 chickens. But I may make my husband do it longer and add a feed room and brooder. Id love to have place to raise my chicks in the coop, other than the basement. Do you know what you have in material for your coop, cost wise?

Around $3k because I used the best materials and all deck/exterior screws...no nails. Around $1200 for the run.
