Big shipment of free pallets!

That's less than two sheets of hardboard siding. (They generally come in 4x8 sheets.)

You could also watch craigslist for old board fences that have been pulled down and use those overlapped kind of shingle style. Even if you buy those boards new, they should be around $2 each and it would probably come out less than the siding.

Just an update, started taking them apart with the saw. So far I got two done for a trial. Everything is looking good! Small panels are going to make this coop unique

we did not take our pallets apart we used them whole and then sheeted over the outside and inside of them once they were put together into walls. No nail pulling or grinding, no fighting with broken boards and a free air barrier to help with insulation.

Believe me, I would if I could. I'm practically on a 0$ budget for this coop other than hardware cloth/chicken wire (I'll have to come up with some money or a good reason for these things).

hmmm have you tried asking on your local free cycle for supplies too? It is amazing what you can get there sometimes. You may be able to get some used plywood ect. I know our local manufactured homes places use to have dumpsters out that you could go get all the free wood out of you could haul as long as you could bet the other guys to it that hit it every week too. darn I miss those dumpsters, the bad economy is making it so fokes are giving away less and less it seems. Good luck ! and hope you post pics when you are done so we can all see how you made out.

Actually, after seeing this pricing, I'm going to take another trip to the Home Depot and check out the prices. It'll be much easier just nailing a couple of pallets together!

If you live by a flooring company they have sheets of wood as well. I went yesterday, and i got a door, 2 boxes of hardwood flooring (mix colors but whos gonna see it) and sheets of plywood. I took apart some of the pallets, and im leaving the one thats in the best condition on the bottom for the base. I am doing a 6X6 house. the lady at my local dump told me she has me some windows there and i can pick em up in the AM. i also got full length 1x10's and some 2x6 and 1x6 and a trellis. but try paint companies and flooring companies. Good luck!

Just rethought my idea. The more wood I buy, the less chances I'll get help with paying for the hardware cloth. So i'll tough it out and stick to taking apart the pallets, even if it means taking a circular saw and cutting them (I wish I could get that recip. saw, it'd save me a bunch of wood!)

EDIT:

Actually, I'm going to HD right now. If it's under 10$ a sheet I'm buying two

I can take apart the pallets for the run structure.
