Big Silkies

There is a hatchery that sells a meat cross silkie bird with black skin and black bones for the Asian market. I can't remember which hatchery has them, but if you ask on the meat bird forum someone will know.

just breed them... all you need are brahmas/ cochin and silkies.... should be able to get some decent ones in 5 years time....

Dont want to cross, want to raise pure silkie, I guess I will just start looking for and mating the biggest ones I can find...

George Mahalik's birds are on the larger side, but I understand that he recently disbursed most of his flock. At the cost of a Mahalik birds, I don't think I would be eating it, though! Most of his birds sell for $200 each or more...

George did not disperse his flock. He sold all of the excess ones that he had to sell. He still has all of his breeders. When he has them available you can purchase a pair for $500 plus shipping or a trio for $750.00 plus shipping.

They have the cushion that is desired in silkies as well as the heavy leg feathering.
