The raccoons have been trying to get into the coop, so i put out a trap. Sat morning I look outside and there is one in the trap and it's brother on top of the have a heart trap.
Long story short.. I shot the one on the loose and relocated the one in the trap.
They were both pretty young, but had tried to dig into the run 3 nights in a row.
I felt bad shooting the one that was loose(very cute), but I knew they wouldn't quit until they either got in or trashed all my hard work.

Hope the one you unwisely "relocated" comes back so you can shoot it too.

I did actually relocate it.
I do a lot of hunting around the country and justify harvesting animals by putting meat in my freezer. Shooting something because it's a pest is hard for me...almost unjustifiable, but in this instance it seemed necessary.
I always strive for a quick and clean "kill" but sometimes it doesn't happen that way and it always weighs heavy on my mind.
Don't get me wrong.. I understand that as a human I am at the top of the food chain and in this case the predetor became the prey.
Hopefully my maker understands.

Raccoons are terrible rabies vectors. One can only hope you didn't put a raccoon in someone elses' back yard to kill their pets or, worse, attack someone.

Here in NC it is against the law to relocate coons for just that reason. It is a huge fine.

Also, relocation studies show a low survival rate in relocated coons. All areas have resident coons with viciously defended territories. The resident will, likely, kill the defenceless youngster.

I didn't know it was illegal to relocate! Is that the case in most states, or just NC? It would be good to know if it was illegal here in GA. Is there somewhere online I can find out? We are in town, but in the country, so I would hope to relocate a coon out in the deep woods out of town if I had a problem with one. I don't own a gun, and I don't think I could kill one.

type in Fish and Game GA and it shouldbring you to a link, then follow the link to relocating wild life.
most states it is illegal to relocate. diseases, parasites and territory issues are cited as being the reason.
