Sometimes I do add chicken. I have added ground beef in the past, but we now have a family member allergic to mammal meats so I don't now. I suppose I could use ground turkey and season it like beef. Usually the cheese filling just consists of shredded cheese, finely chopped onion, and a sprinkling of hand-rubbed dried oregano leaves (because we never had fresh growing up and dried is plenty potent). Other than that, this is a basic recipe, dress it up according to your and your family's tastes. I would not put beans in it because I always serve beans and rice as side dishes, but by all means, get as creative as you like!Do you ever add anything (shredded chicken, black beans, etc) to the cheese filling? If so, do you ever change the underlying recipe? (more/less cheese, different spices, etc.)
