I would be real careful how you store it as it will lose weight as you know just sitting there as the airsac grows. if you don't plan to hatch it or eat it i would look into preserving it which would help maintain its weight.

Good point. We've taken pictures and videos of it on a Guinness book of world records "APPROVED" scale *rolleyes*

After it becomes official, we may blow the yolk out of the egg and keep the shell, or just eat it. Who knows?

I had one today that floored me from one of my 9 month old RIR It is huge.. On the food scale which is not digital it read between 3-4 ounces... Unbelievable..
My poor girl! She is okay was out scratching in the leaves later....

This is laying on four X-large eggs....

Amazing..... :-)

This is the largest egg I've...rather, my ladies...has ever laid. Most of the eggs I gather are in the Jumbo category. 3 oz eggs aren't all that uncommon for us. The current laying flock started laying last August. As far as what I'd call "pullet" eggs, I may have gotten a dozen from the whole flock. Most of the gals started out with large or extra large for a couple days and moved immediately to jumbos.

Compared to an 2.3 oz extra-large (left), and a 2.7 oz jumbo (middle). Same egg, just different lighting and camera exposure.
