Hi everyone. I'm new to raising chickens and I want to know which chickens lay the biggest eggs and what colors the eggs will be. I'd like a variety of all colors, the larger the better. I was thinking americaunas for sure. Any other suggestions?

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Would say of mine for the biggest eggs in various colors, the commercial White Leghorns for white eggs, Delawares for light brown, Red Stars (Red Sex Links) for darker brown eggs, and a lot of hatchery Easter Eggers for green/blue eggs. Some of the Marans also lay a really big really dark egg. A little write up on big egg layers http://www.critters360.com/index.php/largest-chicken-eggs-15817/ and some things that can make a difference in the size of egg your birds are laying http://www.gov.mb.ca/agriculture/li...size-and-your-small-flock-of-laying-hens.html

Hi

Great advice you got from the others!!!!

The only thing I would add is that Ameraucanas don't lay a very big egg- I usually get a medium size egg out of all of mine and I have quite a few.

if you are looking for big blue eggs I would check out Cream Legbars for sure!! My original line Legbars lay HUGE eggs! They are my largest layers beating out my Marans, Orps and Exchequer Leghorns.

Here is a pic of a normal size egg I get from my Cream Legbars next to one of my Black Copper Marans egg and an Olive Egger egg (Ameraucana x Black Copper Marans)
